When the practice is closed, please call 111 if you have an urgent medical problem.
Emergencies outside surgery hours are handled initially by the 111 service. All calls are passed to an experienced call handler, who will arrange for telephone advice or direct you to the most appropriate service for your problem. That may be a pharmacy, Herts Urgent Care, your GP practice the following morning or Accident and Emergency if your need is serious enough to warrant this.
Accident and Emergency services (A&E) are being seriously mis-used both in Cambridge and nationally. Too many people are attending A&E with non-emergency conditions, which is having a severe adverse effect on the service. You should only attend A&E if you have an Accident OR AN EMERGENCY. Conditions appropriate for A&E attendance might be chest pain, stroke, breathing difficulties or severe bleeding. Call 111 and they will advise you on the best place to obtain treatment - if they feel you need to attend A&E they will tell you.
