While many care agencies need to be paid for privately, Cambridgeshire County Council do offer funded care and support to those who are not able to afford the support they require. Adult Social care can be accessed either by referral from a health professional or by contacting them yourself. They will carry out a care needs assessment where they can recommend or set up the support required. This can be a package of care, for example carers to come in at breakfast and dinner time, or adaptations to your home to help prevent falls and make life easier for you. All professionals involved will want to work with you to help get what you need, but also to respect what you do and do not want.

Care Choices is a website that offers a search tool for local care homes and in-home care suppliers. They also produce a handy magazine updated every year which you can request to be sent to you or can be read online. Click here to go to their website.

Caring Together is a local charity who provides support and advice for the cared for and the carer. They can set up homecare, help you make a plan in case of emergencies, organise support in the community through social hubs and café’s, and offer a friendly ear. Click here to go to their website.

Age UK is a charity which offers many services and support options. One example is the Community Wardens service which offers daily contact with assistance with small daily tasks. Click here to go to their website.

NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust provide many services in the community. These include:

• Occupational and Physio Therapists
• Older People Mental Health support
• Continence service
• Talking therapies
• Community nursing
• Specialist diabetes support

Attendance Allowance helps with extra costs if you have a disability severe enough that you need someone to help look after you. Click here for further information.

• a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability
